Welcome to Genomics and Proteomics Lab
The Genomics Laboratory is established with a generous funding from DBT(Department of Biotechnology),Government of India. This Lab will pay attention to understand the molecular mechanisms behind various biotic and abiotic stress tolerance in Major crops viz., Rice,Maize,Cassava,Pulses and Major Millets.
The structural genomics component includes high resolution mapping of drought tolerance related traits in the above crops.Efforts are towards developing stress tolerant crop varieties through MAB by exploiting the information generated in our lab and also from our collaborators.
Under the functional genomics component, we focus our attention for large scale stress responsive gene expression profiling using microarrays, proteomics etc. Specifically we are focussing our aim to understand the functional genomics of root growth and root penetration ability of rice.
About our databases
TNAU Genomics and Proteomics lab is involved in developing databases on rice,Maize, Cassava ,Minor millets and Vigna etc.,All these publicly available databases are grouped under a domain "Biogen Base".Biogen Base has the following:
Biogen Base Rice - Contains information on morphological diversity noticed for seven quantitative and twenty qualitative traits in the rice varieties released from TRRI, Aduthurai.It also harbors molecular data generated through high-thorughput gene expression profiling tools. Rice proteomics contains information on the proteins expressed in rice roots.Efforts are also being taken to catalogue the proteins expressed in other tissues viz.,leaves,leaf sheath, panicle etc,. including stress responses.
Biogenbase-Maize Contains information on morphological diversity noticed for various quantitative and qualitative traits in the maize inbreds available at TNAU.
Biogenbase-Cassava(Manihot esculenta Crantz) contains information on the genetic resources conserved in field genebank at Tapioca and Castor Research Station (TCRS), Yethapur, TNAU.
Dhania Base- This contains morphological and quantitative information on various minor millets namely,Samai,Tenai,Panivaragu and Kudiraivalli accessions available at Millet Breeding Station, TNAU.
Paithum base contains digitalized information on various morphological,quantitative and qualitative characters of a major pulse crop,mung bean(Vigna radiata) maintained at National Pulses Research Centre, Vamban of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.
Ulutham base contains digitalized information on various quantitative characters of a major pulse crop,urd bean(Vigna mungo) maintained at National Pulses Research Centre, Vamban of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.
